How Foresight handles place data.
Foresight exists to help partnerships understand their place. That only works if the people and organisations in the data can trust how it is handled. This page says plainly what we hold and why.
What Foresight holds
Foresight is a workspace for place-based partnerships. Each place's workspace holds organisation-level stakeholder data (organisation names, sectors, wards, activity types, relationships between organisations) supplied by the partnership itself, typically imported from an existing stakeholder-mapping exercise.
Personal contact details are not published in the workspace. Where the source mapping recorded a contact for an organisation, the workspace shows only that a contact is on file; the details themselves stay with the partnership's own records.
Where the data comes from
Stakeholder data is supplied by the commissioning partnership (for example, a local authority, Active Partnership or place partnership) under its own data-sharing arrangements. Foresight processes it solely to provide the workspace to that partnership.
Demonstration workspaces use organisation-level information from public sources and illustrative figures, and are labelled as such.
Session check-ins
Some activities use a printed QR poster so people can tap in when they arrive. This records that a visit happened, and nothing that identifies the person. No name, no email, no phone number, no account, and no location tracking.
On a first visit we ask for an age band and the first part of a postcode. Both are optional and can be skipped. They exist so the organisation running the session, and whoever funds it, can see whether it is reaching the community it is meant to reach. They are only ever reported as totals, never as individual records.
A random identifier is stored on the phone itself so that a returning visitor is not counted twice. It is not linked to a person, it is not shared, and clearing the browser's site data removes it.
Check-in records are held for as long as the funded activity needs to evidence its delivery, and are then removed. Aggregate totals, which cannot be traced to anyone, may be kept for longer to show change over time.
Where data is held, and who processes it
Foresight runs on Vercel, with data stored in a managed Postgres database and files in Vercel Blob storage. Hosting and data storage for production are in the United Kingdom.
Some features use an AI model provided by Anthropic to read pasted text and turn it into a draft entry. Text sent to that service is stripped of personal contact details first. Anthropic processes data outside the UK, under contractual safeguards, and does not train models on this content.
We do not sell data, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not share it with third parties beyond the processors named above.
Who is responsible
Where a partnership or local authority commissions a Foresight workspace, that organisation is the data controller and Goodthing acts as its processor, under a written agreement.
For check-ins at a funded activity, the organisation running the session and the body funding it determine why the information is collected. Goodthing provides and operates the system on their behalf.
Your rights and questions
